So, we're less than two weeks away from the presidential election. What am I thinking about this morning? Why, the local elections next year.
There are a few races of interest shaping up in Lower Allen.
We'll look at the school board races first.
Several seats are up for grabs on the West Shore School District Board of Directors. The Board is divided into three regions, two of which serve LAT:
- Region 1: Wormleysburg Borough, Lemoyne Borough, New Cumberland Borough, Lower Allen Township Precincts 4 & 5
- Region 2: Lower Allen Township Precincts 1, 2, 3, and 6, Fairview Township Precincts 1, 2, and 4
In Region 1, seats held by Howard Dougherty and Todd Ambrose are on the ballot in 2009. Both Dougherty and Ambrose are Republicans. Ambrose lives in Allendale in LA5, and Dougherty lives in Lemoyne.
In Region 2, the seat held by Sharon Shope is up next year. Shope lives in Fairview Township.

A small piece of LAT - Lower Allen 1 Annex - is represented on the Mechanicsburg School Board in its Region 2. Seats held by President Raymond White, Jr. and Gregory Pappas are up this year. White is a Democrat who lives in Upper Allen 9, and Pappas is a Republican living in the same district.
In LAT, several elected offices will be on the 2009 ballot:
- Township Commissioner: Peddrick Young (R) & Dan Christ (D)
- Treasurer: Bonnie Miller (R)
- Assessor: Barbara Kocher (R)
- Assistant Assessor: Mary Balaban (D)
- Constable: Edgar Siptroth (R)
Petitioning runs from Feb. 17 to Mar. 10. The primary election is May 19, and the general election is set for Nov. 3.
And, yes, I'm running.
