Last Monday's BOC meeting featured discussion on several township neighborhoods, as well as a decision to spend a little money now to communicate more effectively on the new municipal complex:
- The Beacon Hill concerns re rubbish, landscaping and lighting were discussed. Unfortunately, none of the original concerned citizens appeared to weigh in on the issues. Long story short, township staff is committed to making sure the Beacon Hill Boulevard area remains free of trash, and will respond promptly to any calls about rubbish accumulating. Also, the landscaping issues will soon be moot due to Phase III construction to be undertaken by Haubert Homes. Finally, staff is investigating roadside reflectors to provide better guidance for motorists in the area as a way to save taxpayer funds which would have been used to construct and maintain streetlights.
- Staff presented results from the parking restriction survey for Highland Park, Highland Estates and Cherokee Avenue. (Link) Because the survey results were less than conclusive, a public meeting will be scheduled sometime in early July to solicit more public input from residents who live in all three areas. Stay tuned for more information on this.
After extended debate which spanned two meetings, Commissioners approved a $5,000 expenditure to have Buchart Horn/Basco Associates construct a detailed scale model of the new municipal and emergency services complex.
What was all the discussion about?
To their credit, Commissioners took very seriously the prospect of laying out five grand for a model. After it is delivered to LAT in early June, look for a public meeting to be announced and advertised to build some hoopla behind the less than conventional BH/BA design which reaches back into the township's history while providing for its public needs today and into the future.
This ain't gonna be your granddaddy's township building.
By the way, I have color copies of the elevations of all four sides of the building, if anybody's interested. I'd be happy to drop into the Crimson Frog one evening after work to show them off, if you're interested. Drop me a line at dan@danchrist.com if you'd like to see the drawings.
