A brief note in the Jan. 23 Recreation and Parks Board monthly report to the BOC caught my attention at the last BOC:
"...Creekside soccer fields will not be playable until approximately Fall of 2009..."

So why will these fields, which are used heavily by local soccer clubs, be out of commission for more than a year? That's a good question with a great answer.
As part of implementing the LACP Master Plan, which can be viewed in depth on LAT's web site (Link), LAT received a DCNR Community Partnership Program grant to improve soccer fields, parking, and the loop trail.
Last year, the BOC selected HRG to create "...professional landscape architecture, engineering and related services for developing design and construction documents for park improvements at the LACP in accordance with Township and DCNR documents." In short, we selected HRG to draw up the plans for contractors to use to do the work. There's a lot more to it than that - ask your friendly township engineer the next time you see him - but that's the essence.
Since the fields will be out of commission, it sounds like HRG has done its job, and the project is moving into an active phase which will include raising the level of the soccer fields and establishing some improved drainage. The fields will be out of commission for a while, but they'll come back better than ever.
