...and they didn't finish a new municipal building last year:
"Lemoyne Borough Council to vote on raising property taxes
by ELLEN LYON, Of The Patriot-News
Monday December 29, 2008, 12:04 PMThe Lemoyne Borough Council decided it needed to raise real estate taxes after all, at a special meeting this morning.
After approving last month a preliminary $4.5 million budget for 2009 that kept the real estate millage at 1.99 mills, several council members said today they thought the budget was too tight and would deplete the borough's reserves. They also expressed concern about expected declines in tax revenue next year.
Council recessed for 30 minutes while Councilwoman Lori Hegedus and borough secretary Kathy Turns re-worked the budget numbers. When the meeting resumed, council voted 7-0 to advertise a millage rate increase of .51 mills, from 1.99 mills to 2.5 mills.
Council will vote on the increase at its Jan. 8 meeting.
At the proposed new tax rate the owner of a home in Lemoyne assessed at $100,000 would pay $250 in borough real estate taxes in 2009, or $51 more than this year. A mill equals $1 per $1,000 of assessed value.
The new budget, which the council approved today, also raises the local services tax, paid by employees who work in the borough, from $10 to $52." (Link)
And that's a 410% increase on the LST, by the way.
