Effective Tuesday, Jan. 20, and for most of the rest of the year, Lower Allen Drive will be closed between Gettysburg Road and Hartzdale Drive. The closure is part of the ongoing construction project along Routes 15 and 581.
According to an email from PennDOT this afternoon:
The Northbound detour will utilize Hartzdale Drive to Gettysburg Road, to Simpson Ferry Road to Lower Allen Drive. The Southbound detour will utilize Gettysburg Road, to Hartzdale Drive, to Lower Allen Drive. A detailed animated map showing the detour routes for both directions is available at:

Access from Hartzdale Drive to the Capital City Mall entrance on Lower Allen Drive will be maintained during the road closure. The road closure and associated detour, which is required to replace the US 15 bridge over Lower Allen Drive, will be in effect until the fall of 2009.
According to LAT Public Safety Director and Police Chief Frank Williamson at Monday night's BOC meeting, the road is supposed to be reopened in time for the holiday shopping season.
Expect to hear more about this in the coming days. A press event is scheduled for tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. at the PennDOT field office behind the Graystone Bank at the corner of Gettysburg Road and Lower Allen Drive.
